Day 109 He Is Not Here | Mark 16:1-8

Day 109 He Is Not Here | Mark 16:1-8

Send us a text

Have you ever found yourself clinging to the past when God is clearly calling you forward? Today's powerful Easter meditation on Mark 16:1-8 explores this very human tendency through fresh eyes.

The women who approached Jesus' tomb that first Easter morning weren't met with the celebration they might have hoped for. Instead of finding Jesus waiting for them, they received surprising news from an angel: "He isn't here." These three simple words represent a profound spiritual principle that resonates throughout our faith journey. Jesus wasn't lingering at the empty tomb – He had already moved ahead, expecting His followers to seek Him in new places.

This revelation challenges us to examine where we might be spiritually stuck, staring at empty tombs or clinging to past experiences when Jesus is calling us forward. The resurrection wasn't merely an ending to death but the beginning of a dynamic, forward-moving relationship with Christ. Just as the angel directed the women away from the tomb toward Galilee, Jesus continues to lead us into new chapters filled with purpose and meaning.

The women's trembling response mirrors our own hesitation when faced with divine redirection. Change, even good change, often triggers fear. Yet this Easter account reminds us that following Jesus means embracing the adventure of faith – leaving behind the comfortable and familiar to pursue where He leads next. Where is Jesus guiding you today? Will you follow Him beyond the empty tomb into the fullness of what He has planned? The story of your faith is still being written, and it requires not just belief in the resurrection, but the courage to follow the resurrected One wherever He leads.

Let's get started.

00:00:19.929 --> 00:00:21.763
And now.

00:00:21.763 --> 00:00:23.388
Weekends with Lauren.

00:00:26.161 --> 00:00:27.626
Today is Day 109.

00:00:27.626 --> 00:00:28.989
He is not here.

00:00:28.989 --> 00:00:29.940
We'll be.

00:00:29.940 --> 00:00:34.031
In Mark, chapter 16, verses 1 through 8 from the New Living Translation.

00:00:35.159 --> 00:00:44.354
Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, mary Magdalene, mary, the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus' body.

00:00:44.354 --> 00:00:49.982
Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb On the way.

00:00:49.982 --> 00:00:54.130
They were asking each other who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb.

00:00:54.130 --> 00:01:00.350
But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.

00:01:00.350 --> 00:01:06.980
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side.

00:01:06.980 --> 00:01:10.888
The women were shocked, but the angel said don't be alarmed.

00:01:10.888 --> 00:01:14.043
You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified.

00:01:14.043 --> 00:01:15.266
He isn't here.

00:01:15.266 --> 00:01:17.349
He is risen from the dead.

00:01:17.349 --> 00:01:19.641
Look, this is where they laid his body.

00:01:19.641 --> 00:01:24.868
Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee.

00:01:24.868 --> 00:01:27.894
Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee.

00:01:27.894 --> 00:01:30.457
You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.

00:01:30.457 --> 00:01:37.885
The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened.

00:01:37.924 --> 00:01:42.254
Sometimes I wonder if the Resurrection Sunday story could have turned out a little differently.

00:01:42.254 --> 00:01:47.484
You know, something like the angel saying he's risen and surprise, here he is.

00:01:47.484 --> 00:01:52.201
Then there would have been hugs, laughter, happy tears and maybe even dancing.

00:01:52.201 --> 00:01:54.566
What a celebration that would have been.

00:01:54.566 --> 00:02:00.186
But instead the angel says he isn't here, he's already gone ahead of you.

00:02:00.186 --> 00:02:03.070
Wait, he's not here.

00:02:03.070 --> 00:02:04.513
So where is he?

00:02:04.513 --> 00:02:08.580
You Wait, he's not here.

00:02:08.580 --> 00:02:08.942
So where is he?

00:02:08.961 --> 00:02:10.545
There wasn't an invitation to hang around the empty tomb and wait.

00:02:10.545 --> 00:02:13.552
Instead, it was a call to action, a call to follow Jesus wherever he's leading next.

00:02:13.552 --> 00:02:21.186
I love that reminder, because sometimes I get stuck wanting to stay exactly where I am comfortable, familiar and safe.

00:02:21.186 --> 00:02:26.042
But Jesus doesn't want us stuck staring at empty tombs or holding onto old things.

00:02:26.042 --> 00:02:31.040
He invites us to move forward, to follow him into a brand new chapter filled with purpose.

00:02:31.040 --> 00:02:34.611
Today, let's not stay where we've always been.

00:02:34.611 --> 00:02:41.990
Jesus is alive and he's leading us forward into an incredible story, one that's still being written in your life and mine.

00:02:41.990 --> 00:02:47.003
So here's the question you should think about this week when is Jesus leading you today?

00:02:47.003 --> 00:02:48.387
Will you follow him?

00:02:48.387 --> 00:02:51.762
Pray with me, jesus.

00:02:51.762 --> 00:02:53.187
Thank you for leading the way.

00:02:53.187 --> 00:02:58.848
Help me step away from the familiar and into the amazing adventure you have planned for me.

00:02:58.848 --> 00:03:03.585
Amen, that's all for now.
